Hosted by Glenn and Phil, this podcast is a virtual trip back in time to the halcyon days of our childhood - the 1980s (and early 1990s). Every week we explore at least one facet of 80's pop culture, discuss questions from our listeners, and report the news from at least 4 of the main franchises of the 80's that are still around today!

Yes folks, it's that time again - the FIFA World Cup is on us again, and here at BTTE Towers we'd like to look back at the tournaments gone by in the Eighties and early Nineties to see just how much football has changed over the years, and which retro football kits Glenn needs to buy in the future. Pete from the Smorgasbored podcast is here as well, casting his expert eye on proceedings!

There's also talk of this year's competition, and our predicitions for the winners - Pete will be back after the World Cup to see how well we did!

This week on the Nerva Beacon, Leigh and Glenn travel all the way back to the Earth Year 1996, to when Doctor Who came back - and it was about time! Literally!

It's the Doctor Who TV movie starring Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor in is, to date, only mainstream TV appearance! But how does it fare by today's standards? Did it have any influence at all on modern Who? And will we ever see Grace again? All these questions and more will be answered!

Next time, we tackle the Eighth's Big Finish ouvre. Blimey.

Emalie and Dave join us from the Transformers YouTube Community this week, to talk all about collecting, having a partner who is a collector, being part of a collecting community, and all kinds of lovely things.

You should all join the TFYTC too, because they're all lovely.

Andy from the Smorgaspod joins us again this week, but not to talk about Transformers. This time he's here to talk about another of Hasbro's Eighties projects, the Visionaries.

We'll be exploring the Spectral Knights, the Darkling Lords, all of the awesome toys and fiction, and asking why didn't Galadria and Virulina ever get toys?

Leigh and Glenn take a look at Sylvester McCoy's (eventual) darker take on the Doctor this week, as they traverse the choppy, clownish waters of his first season, to the even more torrid seas of the Cartmel Masterplan, and it's truly sad end.

But fear not, because there was a Byronish romantic figure waiting on the horizon...

We're joined this week by Amy Walker from the Eccentric Earth podcast to talk about one of her favourite movies, the 1986 cult classic from John Carpenter, Big Trouble in Little China!

Thankfully Lo Pan does NOT make an appearance. He's a bit scary, that one.

It's not only about the stories this week, it's about the politics, too. BBC politics, that is. When Colin Baker was cast as the Sixth Doctor, the knives came out, not only for him, but JNT and the whole of Doctor Who as well. This is (part of) the story of how they weathered the storm, and gave Doctor Who a stay of execution, for a while, at least.

It's just been Wrestlemania time again, and Glenn is joined by Harriett (aka MangaGirl) to look at what went down, as well as look to the past for their own Wrestlemania memories!
